Financial Support for Students in the Doctoral Program
The University of Tsukuba provides financial support (living & research allowance) to our promising doctoral students in the form of grants.
As one of the universities that leads promising students, the University of Tsukuba has awarded below three doctoral student support projects from JST (Japan Science and Technology Agency).
- Support for Pioneering Research Initiated by the Next Generation (SPRING)(2021-)
- University Fellowship Establishment Program for Science and Technology Innovation Creation (Fellowship)(2021-2023)
- Next-Generation AI Human Resource Development Program
"Broadening Opportunities for Outstanding young researchers and doctoral students in STrategic areas (BOOST)"
The university is fostering doctoral students who will create new value and contribute to solving global issues by connecting with diverse human resources beyond the borders of conventional academic disciplines and national borders.
■ Call for New SPRING and BOOST Research Fellowship Students for AY2025 Spring
The University of Tsukuba begins to call for doctoral student who are eligible for research incentive funds of the 2025 SPRING and BOOST Research fellowship.
Doctoral students who wish to apply should check the application guidelines below, and submit the application through u-Rad , management system for internal grants of the University of Tsukuba. Please note that after AY2025, no new applications will be accepted based on the fields of the University Fellowship Establishment Program.
*BOOST is limited to research that includes "the field of AI and emerging/combined areas in AI (next-generation AI field). (Only D1 or D2 equivalent student may apply.) If you apply and are selected for BOOST, you will not be selected for SPRING.

April 8 (Tue.), 2025 - Monday, April 14, 2025 (Strict observance)
Please log in to u-Rad using your ID of University of Tsukuba Unified Authentication system. New enrollees in the doctoral program in April 2025 will be given this ID after the entrance ceremony.
* Please note that Internally admitted students will not be able to use their master's program ID of the system for doctoral program in AY2025 after April.
