The 37th Tsukuba Marathon

The 37th Tsukuba Marathon was held on November 26 under the auspices of the city of Tsukuba, the University of Tsukuba, Ibaraki Rikujo Kyogi-kai (IRK), and the Yomiuri Shimbun. Starting from and finishing on the University of Tsukuba campus, about 15,000 people took part in the race. They ran while enjoying the autumn colors of the leaves on campus.

The marathon was held under the theme of "Marathon with a Scientific Look". In addition, Associate Professor Enomoto of the Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences worked on a project titled "Running form with a scientific look", in cooperation with CASIO Computer Co., Ltd.

To lessen overcrowding on the course, participants started the marathon in a wave just as last year. Vice President Shinnichi Tamagawa served as the starter for the third wave. More than 3,000 runners including Tsukuba City Mayor Tatsuo Igarashi made a start from the third wave.
